These works of art are actually hybrid 'rough drafts' but I posted them so any other interested people can see what I'm up to as of late. The field of Art hasn't really seemed to mesh with TCM for other practitioners, but it seems the best way to learn TCM to me!
Page under development at present!
Statement of Purpose:
SHAKE UP THE WORLD OF TCM; CHANGE HOW TCM IS LEARNED; HELP PATIENTS AND DOCTORS UNDERSTAND DEEP TCM THEORY; HELP STUDENTS OF TCM MEMORIZE THE DEEP, STRANGE THEORETICAL CONCEPTS OF TCM AND INCREASE THEIR CLINICAL SKILLS.
I plan on making this webpage an idea-center and platform for the design of Traditional Chinese Medicine cartoons, graphic art and creative visualizations (mp3 voice files). Although I may have to expand beyond Godaddy.com at some point in the future, to accommodate the growing server needs of this huge project; still in its infancy.
If you are a practitioner and you would like to help in ANY way, even by making and upscanning cool TCM collage art, please email me anytime; this is a HUGE project that will take the creative minds of many more individuals beyond myself. Further, I am not a specialist in computer art I only dabble and haven't the technical knowledge to personally plan all my dream-projects.
My hope is to recruit some acupuncture-herb educated GRAPHIC DESIGNERS AND PROGRAMMERS who want to help me by creating the layouts for TCM learning games. Of course, this is all done on my spare time as a hobby and I cannot pay. The reason is simple: the profession needs more artistic learning tools.
Through collages (my favorite free art medium) I have been developing a sophisticated SYMBOLIC LANGUAGE through which to convey the deep theory of TCM. I hope to develop a series of artistic renderings that I can use to illustrate, if you will, the guided meditations in TCM theory I am also creating.
Herbal medicine lends itself to visual learning. I plan on revising the TCM HERB QUIZ link by adding excellent photos and breaking down the questions a bit more through simplification; the herb quiz is actually quite long and only the first little bits are up linked the website at present.
I will be posting excellent photos of all the dried specimens, and try to provide pics for all the herbs in vegatative state as well. Knowing what herbs look like in all stages of life, in my opinion, is very important to American students of TCM.
Why do we need more ART, music and creative visualization in TCM curriculums? Because using ART and graphics to teach is a long-standing notion. Students with creative imaginations do very well closing their eyes and focusing on detailed, slow voice lectures set to a slight rhythm. Learning by listening is also a well-respected way to shuffle data. Problem is, there aren't any good voice lectures out there to listen to! I hope to create many, in MP3 format for easy burning to CD's for students. Check back for the first ones in a month or two...I'm still waiting on some of the new technology before I can start. These creative visualizations will be slow, deep, well-recorded explorations of TCM theory; compared between different texts. Juicy stuff! For example: I will compare how different texts examine all the aspects of the LUNG in TCM; then I will subsequently look at acupuncture for the LUNGS and HERBS--all that would be on one CD, for example. I will cite all references so you can do more research later!
( I am a doctoral canidate for my DAOM and I study a lot, so I figured I should organize my efforts for the overall benefit of alumni and students at the Masters' level).
TCM is a relatively new field in America.
We need more artists to help design easier ways to learn the deep concepts contained within the daily study of TCM. My mission and goal is to spread the call to design better study tools, and therefore improve the quality of TCM education for future students. -a.m.
